On the occasion of the second “International Day against Military Spending” on 17 April 2012 nobel prize laureates and academia as well as representatives of trade unions and non-governmental organisations address the public with a global appeal "Disarmament for Sustainable Development". They demand a disarmament plan for development and the inclusion of "peace" as a topic area at the World Conference Rio plus 20 in June 2012.

"It is common knowledge that the Armenian diaspora has long been seeking to induce key governments around the world to make formal declarations to the effect that what happened in 1915 was in fact "genocide", and some 25 governments have done so, as have many lesser political entities such as sub-divisions of the state or cities. These efforts to legalise historical truth, as distinct from mourning historical events, is itself a political gimmick that does little to resolve the dispute, and makes diplomatic compromise more difficult and accommodation virtually impossible.

Civil society demands for a regional truth commission in the former Yugoslavia

The Coalition for RECOM is a non-political regional gathering of civil society organizations in the countries of the former Yugoslavia. It consists of a network of non-governmental organizations, associations, and individuals who represent and promote the Initiative for RECOM towards the establishment of a Regional Commission Tasked with Establishing the facts about All Victims of War crimes and Other Serious Human Rights Violations Committed on the Territory of the Former Yugoslavia in the period from 1991-2001 (RECOM).
